Paper Cravat
I was commissioned by the Courtauld institute to create a paper-craft replica of the famous Grinling Gibbons woodcarved cravat of the V&A, originally owned Horace Wallpole, at Strawberry Hill House.
Created using only white paper, the piece is true to size and painstakingly recreated using thousands of tiny handcut, scored and puctured pieces of paper to resemble the layered effect of the original detailed floral lace design. The paper artpiece was part of a group exhibition, but due to popular demand, my Paper Cravat has been extended and is now exhibited at Strawberry Hill House until September 2026.

Work In Progress:
The entire piece was made using 3 tools: a scalpel, a needle and a syringe filled with glue. Each element was hand scored, cut or punctured with the needle, to create the embossed effect of the lace.
The piece is just over 20 cm in size, and is completely made out if white paper.
The design of the lace was meticulously calculated and drawn out on Adobe Illustrator, working closely to the research and reference photographs of the original wooden artefact on display at the V&A.
